
Heidi Watney, born May 19 1981, is an American sportscaster and reporter for Apple TV+. Her prior experience in sportscasting includes work at the University of San Diego, New England Sports Network (Boston), Time Warner Cable SportsNet (Los Angeles) as well as two stations in Fresno. Watney was a student at Clovis West High School, Fresno. In her time there, she competed in hurdles and diving. One of her achievements was being a National Merit Scholar. She went to the University of San Diego with an academic scholarship. In 2003 she graduated with top honours. Watney was the Miss California USA 2002 runner-up. Watney is the daughter of professional golfer Nick Watney. [7] Andy Weir claimed that he took Watney's surname in the creation of the character Mark Watney in his science fiction novel The Martian. This was after hearing her name over the Red Sox game broadcast. Watney was featured in the music video for Dropkick Murphys' "Going Out in Style" single.
