Her prior experience in sportscasting includes work at the University of San Diego, New England Sports Network (Boston), Time Warner Cable SportsNet (Los Angeles) as well as two stations in Fresno. Watney was a student at Clovis West High School, Fresno. In her time there, she competed in hurdles and diving. One of her achievements was being a National Merit Scholar.
